100th 747-8 Delivered

Today a rare double 747-8 delivery took place for AirBridgeCargo. Line 1501 RC671 VQ-BFU and line 1502 RC672 VQ-BFE both flew off to Russia, marking the 99th and 100th delivered 747-8s.

These two frames were formerly earmarked for Asiana, so it's nice to see them finally fly into service well over a year after rolling out of the factory.

Can't wait for delivery #200.

  5. amazon shaking things up in the air cargo business... even though their interest is 767's currently, I wonder if perhaps this might lead some of their vendors to eventually add a couple 747's to support this operation

    1. Given the nature of the cargo and the operation, I'd expect them to have a fleet mix similar to UPS or FedEx. So I think 747s are unlikely for this. On the other hand, perhaps this could be an opportunity for the 767-2C, if they're going to go after new build aircraft in the future.

  6. While I admit 767's are more likely, UPS does run 13 747-400s now whereas FedEx went for a lot of 777's so new 748's are not out of the realm of possibilities (source -- see Wikipedia for UPS, FedEx fleet pages) although it would have to compete with converted 747 freighters too

  8. There are 3 unallocated and unidentified frames coming down the line. I presume these are whitetails but I'm usually wrong. Does anybody have any idea whose frames these are? One of them just might be a pax model.

    2. Yea that is what I think is most likely and again no firm commitment other than last year's Paris announcement.:(

What a sad state of affairs.

Would love to own a quadbike made from a 747 MLG, though. :)

    6. Thanks :-) I hope the vacation has left you refreshed and ready to cover an exciting year of 747-8 action (we can always be hopeful :-) )

    7. Yes I hope so too. Flying will be bland when every other plane looks like every other plane. Long live the Queen of the skies (fingers crossed).
